Today, several parks throughout Panama are named afterVasco Núñez de Balboa. A large majority of monuments in his honor glorify his discovery of the South Sea.
The official currency of Panama is the Balboa, and his likeness appears some coins. His name is also attached to Panama's main port, Balboa, the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal. In San Fransciso, California Balboa's name appears among a row of avenues which are named after several Spanish conquistadors and in a San Francisco neighborhood called 'Balboa Park.' |
